Louis Heckman coached Ottoville High School for 32 years, 1918-51, and amassed 448 wins and 124 losses. He won a total of nine PCL League titles along with numerous tournament championships.
Coach Heckman graduated from Glandorf High School and St. Joseph College in Indiana. Perhaps most amazing of all, Coach Heckman was an educator for 50 years, 1909-59. Coach Heckman’s wife is also deceased.
At the time of his induction, he was survived by son, Paul J. Heckman and daughters Mary Catherine Heckman and Agnes Archdeacon of Ottoville, Margaret Heiss of Delphos, and Gertrude Shay of Dayton. He was indeed survived by outstanding sportswriter, Thomas Archdeacon who is the eldest grandchild. His six other grandchildren are Mary Beth (Archdeacon) Lash, Cathy (Archdeacon) Looser, Louis Heckman, Margie Heckman, Lisa Shay and John Shay. At this time, there are also 9 Great-Grandchildren and 5 Great-great grandchildren.
