Coach Ryan graduated from Holy Rosary in 1934 and The Ohio State University in 1941. He served 23 years as coach at St. Charles winning 332 and losing 116 for 74.1%. They were league champs nine times and won sectional championships in 1949 and 1956.
Jack has the unique honor of being the only Ohio high school coach to be inducted into the Hall of Fame for football, basketball and baseball. He was inducted into the Ohio Football Coaches Hall of Fame in 1988 with a record of 257 wins and 140 losses. In 1974 he entered the Ohio Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame with 927 wins and 241 losses.
Jack coached at St. Charles from 1937-1941, then served in the US Coast Guard 1941-1973, returned to St. Charles to coach and teach from 1943-1962. From there he went to Bishop Harley from 1963-1989. His basketball teams were #1 in the Greater Columbus area seven years. He was a basketball official for 26 years and taught for a total of 50 years.
Other honors included Agonis Club Award in 1963, Ohio High School Athletic Association Appreciation Award in 1981, the Ernie Godfrey Hall of Fame in 1958. Jack authored a book titled Intramurals on the Secondary Level.
Jack’s wife is Elaine and they have two daughters, Kathleen Paolini, MS and Patty Ryan, Ph. D. Their sons are Jim, MS, John, Jr. DDS and Joe DDS. Jack and Elaine have nine grandchildren.
