RUSS GREGG – 1984 RECIPIENT


Russ Gregg of Whitehall High School, a 30-year veteran of Ohio High School Basketball coaching wars, was honored prior to the AAA championship game by being named winner of the Paul Walker Award.

The award, named in honor of Paul Walker, the winningest coach in Ohio basketball history, is awarded annually by the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association to a longtime Ohio coach who has made significant contributions to high school basketball.

Coach Gregg has coached at Ashville Teays Valley and Whitehall during his 30-year career. He has won 432 games, had a team ranked 1st in the state, been selected Ohio Class AA Coach of the Year and coached in the North-South All-Star Game. Gregg has been active in the coaches association and served as president of the local coaches association.

The veteran Whitehall mentor is married to Clara Louise and they have three children, sons Rex and Van and a daughter, Mitzi.
